Thousands of manuscripts and counting…Now celebrating 22 years in publishing!

Hi! My name is Rachel Paul, and I’ve worked in publishing for more than two decades. I am a copyeditor, proofreader, project manager, book designer, multimedia graphics artist, published author, and book publishing jill-of-all-trades. My experience in editing and publishing ranges anywhere from astrophysics journals and arms treaties to oracle tarotsophy and music. I specialize in both humanities and STEM scholarship (science, technology, engineering, and medicine/mathematics). I also enjoy working with authors who are nonnative English speakers (known as ESL, or “English as a second language”). I provide editorial services for authors of educational content of all types and backgrounds, who write for all ages. I have worked with authors on all seven continents on the planet, including Antarctica.

I started my career in publishing in the early aughts when e-book still seemed like a buzzword. As a publishing intern in Philadelphia, I heard “Print is dead!” through my cubbie as we unwittingly coded the rise of digital publishing. During my time as the managing editor of a thriving publisher services company, we would wax in South Street coffee shops about salvaging the human in humanities. Twenty years in, migrating from Philly to Detroit, along the Canadian border back to my humble homestead office in the volcanic mountains of Hawai’i, I am committed to helping my authors publish the world’s best books, articles, and multimedia content. Since 2005 I have worked with thousands of independent authors, university presses, academic publishers, and professional organizations worldwide. During that time, digital publishing has given us all a 24/7 pocket library at our fingertips. But I still prefer a coffee shop freebie paperback. It’s a balance.

I am a former managing editor, a graphic designer and book compositor, an Agile/Scrum enthusiast, a project manager, and an indexer. I helped develop an XML-based publishing workflow back when we didn’t think everyone would actually carry a pocket computer thing. To stay current I enjoy publishing educational content in programming, software engineering, app/web development, and IT (as a project manager and all-around creative type who has worked in that field for several decades). When I think about my third decade in publishing, my goal is to further explore world religions, spirituality, archaeology, astronomy, history, folklore, linguistics, and the science of language.

Red pens and style manuals aside, my brand of publishing is about communication and collaboration. Editor’s honor, your manuscript is awesome. Together we can turn a new page and inspire the world through the written word.

They say it all started with the word.
